Barefoot Winter Moss Green high top bootie slippers worn with blue jeans

What “barefoot” means at KOW

Barefoot isn’t a buzzword for us. It means flat, flexible, and foot-shaped so your feet can move the way they’re built to—without heel lifts, arch crutches, or stiff soles.

When our founder, Godie van de Paal, was eight, she slipped on traditional “pothees” and loved how natural they felt. Years later she rebuilt that idea with modern materials and ethical production in Siem Reap—so you get that same “ahh, this feels right” feeling at home.

Why choose KOW barefoot slippers

  • Truly flat (zero-drop). Heel and forefoot on the same level—no tilt, no push on your back or knees.

  • Foot-shaped room. A wide front lets your toes spread and grip instead of being pinched.

  • Flexible leather sole. Thin, protective, and bendy so you feel the floor and move naturally.

  • Second-skin upper. Hand-crocheted yarn that gives with your foot instead of fighting it.

  • Made with care. Fair pay, safe conditions, and low-waste craft in our Siem Reap workshop.

What you’ll actually feel

  • Quieter, softer steps. You’ll naturally land lighter.

  • More feedback. You can sense the floor, which helps balance and coordination.

  • Less “push,” more ease. Without a raised heel, standing tall feels simpler.

  • Toes that help. Spreading and gripping wakes up muscles that shoes often switch off.

Not a medical device, not a cure—all feet are different. If you have a condition or pain, go slow and check in with a pro.

How to transition (simple plan)

Most people adjust in 2–4 weeks. If anything feels sore, back up a step.

  • Week 1: 30–60 minutes a day at home.

  • Week 2: 1–3 hours a day (break it up).

  • Week 3: Half-day wear.

  • Week 4: All-day if it feels good.

Tips:

  • Move your toes—spread, curl, and “short-foot” grip now and then.

  • Rest days help just like with any new activity.

Indoors, outdoors, and care

  • Best use: Around the house and light trips (mailbox, garden path).

  • Wet/rough surfaces: The sole is thin; go easy. For out-and-about, try our espadrilles.

  • Care: Spot clean the upper, air dry only. Keep leather away from heaters. Brush the sole if it picks up dust.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to transition?

Most people go from 30 minutes to all-day wear over 2–4 weeks—just listen to your feet and ramp up gradually.

Can I use them outdoors?

Absolutely—our grippy rubber outsoles handle sidewalks, patios, and light trails with ease.

Do they work for flat feet?

By activating your foot’s own support system, many flat-footed customers see stronger arches over time.
